More adventures in old media: a second visit to MIAP, and a surprise (temporary) gift from the amazing Jason Scott…a Syquest Drive! We have 2 Syquest Cartridges in our collection. I’d never seen one before— they’re crazy.
M. asked me to show him 10 paintings that have been personally inspiring to me at one moment or another in my life. Here they are for posterity.
It’s fall. I am wearing a scarf.
Went to the New Museum to see the Brion Gysin exhibition but ended up spending much more time looking at the Rivane Neuenschwander show .
The work was so simple— buckets hung from the ceiling in two tiers, dripping water from one to the next. A video captured a seemingly animated bubble with incredible tenacity moving from room to room in an abandoned house. A floating egg on a spoon fearlessly bounced along a path, its carrier unseen and unheard.
I was moved. Now that I’ve stopped writing art criticism, I don’t have to explain why.
I am thinking a lot about making art, about what it will take for me to open the floodgates. More on this soon.
